"Table Tennis is a sport of dexterity, reflexes and technical skills. It requires tactical intelligence to adapt your style to your opponents by acknowledging their strengths and weaknesses."

Born on the 14th December 1972, Andrea Borgato spent his childhood growing up in Rovigo. Happy, always playful and slightly reckless, Andrea's name soon became a familiar one around the halls of the local ER! Studying Chemistry at University in Padua and Ferrara, it was in 1995 (at the age of 23) when Andrea was involved in a car accident, suffering cervical (neck) trauma that left him a quadriplegic. "It took months of rehabilitation and several surgeries in order to regain the use of my right hand".

Towards the end of 2006, Andrea was introduced to the man who went on to be his trainer (Giovanni Bruttomesso), whilst taking part in a regional Table Tennis tournament in Veorna, Venato. With Giovanni's guidance, Andrea began his long journey to train professionally for Table Tennis, utilising the knowledge of his trainer to develop both the physical and psychological aspects of his game. "Table Tennis is a sport of dexterity, reflexes and technical skills. It requires tactical intelligence to adapt your style to your opponents by acknowledging their strengths and weaknesses. The psychological approach towards the competition against your opponent is very important".

In 2009, Andrea's commitment to his training paid off when he won a Bronze Medal at the European Team Championships. Following a Gold Medal win at the Romania & Hungary Open and another at the 2013 Bratislava International, Andrea is enjoys not only the spirit of competition, but the benefits you get from participating in sport - "The biggest challenges are always the training sessions, away games and of course the opponents. It's a very technical, competitive sport that requires a great deal of intelligence, but it can give you enormous benefits too - from a balance, strength to endurance. It's also just a whole lot of fun too!"

"El tenis de mesa es un deporte donde hace falta destreza, reflejos y mucha técnica."
